Leatherhead Choral Society (LCS) was founded in 1928, when towns were first admitted to the famous Leith Hill Musical Festival. We have taken part in the Festival every year since then. Held annually over three days at the Dorking Halls, Dorking, Surrey, the Festival forms the high point of the year for many local amateur singers. for several years we sang in Division Two, but in 2008 we are moving into Division Three where we will compete against, and sing with, Dorking, Epsom and Horsley choral societies.

We compete in all classes: Madrigal, Part Song, Women's Song, Men's Song, Own Choice, and part of the Main Work(s). We usually also field two ensembles in the Ensemble class. The day ends with a complete performance given by all the participating choirs, with a professional orchestra conducted by Festival Conductor Brian Kay.

We are a friendly amateur choir and sing a very wide range of repertoire, from sixteenth century madrigals to contemporary arrangements. We hold a major concert every December, and a concert or other event in the Summer. Recently at our concerts we have sung Britten's Ceremony of Carols, Rutter's Requiem and Chilcott's Jubilate. You can read all about our recent social events here.

Our musical director and conductor since 2001 is Ian Assersohn. Our accompanist is Gina Eason, a well-known and talented local musician who is also closely involved with a number of other choirs and chamber groups in the area.
